The Perfect Cup: Creating a Guest-Friendly Coffee Station for Your Short-Term Rental

17 Apr, 2024

A steaming cup of LOCAL coffee is a welcome amenity for any guest, and a well-stocked coffee station can be a thoughtful touch that shows you care about their experience. But where do you begin? This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to create a coffee station that is both inviting and functional for your short-term rental guests.

The Benefits of a Coffee Station

There are many benefits to providing a coffee station for your guests. First and foremost, it shows that you've considered their needs and want to make their stay enjoyable. Since a majority of Americans drink this beautiful dark liquid, you are starting out meeting their needs!  A coffee station can also:

  • Enhance the guest experience: A cup of coffee in the morning can help guests feel refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
  • Leave a positive impression: A well-stocked coffee station shows that you've paid attention to the details and that you care about your guests' comfort.
  • Contribute to better reviews: Guests who appreciate the little things, like a coffee station, are more likely to leave positive reviews.

Choosing the Right Coffee Maker

The type of coffee maker you choose will depend on your budget and your guests' preferences. Here are a few popular options to consider:

  • Drip Coffee Maker: A drip coffee maker is a classic and affordable option. It's easy to use and can brew a pot of coffee in minutes.
  • French Press: A French press brews a richer cup of coffee than a drip coffee maker. However, it requires a bit more effort to use and may not be suitable for all guests. If you choose to go with a French press, be sure to include a manual with instructions.
  • Bialetti Express Moka Pot: This stovetop option is a great way to make a strong cup of espresso. It's a more affordable alternative to an espresso machine, but it may not be familiar to all guests.
  • High-End Espresso Machine: If you want to offer your guests the ultimate coffee experience, you can consider investing in a high-end espresso machine. However, this is the most expensive option and may not be necessary for all rentals.

Other Essential Elements

In addition to a coffee maker, you'll also need to provide a variety of other items to make your coffee station complete. Here's a list of essentials:

  • Coffee: This goes without saying! Offer a variety of coffee beans or pods to cater to different tastes.
  • Tea: Some guests may prefer tea over coffee. Despite my avid love for coffee, sometimes in the evenings I just want a mint tea, so you may want to offer a selection of teas as well.
  • Mugs: Provide a variety of mugs in different sizes. If your guests gravitate to one in particular, it will go a long way in cementing that experience for them as a memorable one.
  • Filters: If you're using a drip coffee maker, be sure to provide filters if the coffee maker doesn't have one built in.
  • Creamer: Some guests like to add creamer to their coffee.
  • Sugar: Provide sugar packets or a sugar bowl.  There are also some sugar alternatives out there which don't spike blood sugar, like Monkfruit.
  • Spoons: Don't forget the spoons!  Those additional contents have to be mixed in somehow.

Design Tips

Once you've gathered all the essentials, it's time to think about the design of your coffee station. Here are a few tips:

  • Keep it organized: A cluttered coffee station will look messy and be uninviting. Use trays, canisters, and organizers to keep things tidy.
  • Consider space: If you have a small kitchen, you may need to get creative with your coffee station layout. A tiered tray can be a great way to save space. Or, maybe consider having a separate cart or small island on which you can place that most coveted of coffee stations!
  • Add personality: Don't be afraid to add a personal touch to your coffee station. This could include a decorative sign, a bowl of fresh fruit, or a vase of flowers.

By following these tips, you can create a coffee station that is both functional and inviting for your short-term rental guests.

Additional Tips

  • If you have the space, include a milk frother for guests who enjoy lattes or cappuccinos.
  • Provide a carafe or thermal pot to keep coffee hot for longer periods.
  • Leave a welcome note with instructions on how to use the coffee maker.

By following these additional tips, you can ensure that your coffee station is a truly top-notch amenity for your guests.
